Meet Linda DeGree
Dandelions can be seen as cheerful blooms of springtime that are resilient and full of health-giving properties, or also seen as weeds that choke the life out of a beautifully manicured lawn. The poems in this book portray love and friendship as prolific dandelions a promise of resilience or the "death" of a lovely lawn depending on the reflections of the reader and the poet.
I like that within this book Tommy has thought through his reasons about why he wants a unicycle, and shares that with his family members. Tommy shows his persistence by using his creativity to invent his creation, but in that action, he also hurts his sister's feelings. Tommy then is faced with a consequence. The adults in Tommy's life help teach him the importance of asking before you take something.
Linda's many years of teaching little ones really shines in her book. She knows how to capture the attention of a young audience. Repetition is key as well as giving them cute pictures to study as they also learn to count. Eli also shows you that you can love little critters and not be afraid of them when you live on a farm.
